Guest Writer and a Night Off

If you’re enjoying following this journey on the Via Transilvanica, I’d be grateful if you’d like and share this post. And if you’d like to see more photos and videos from the trail, you can find me on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, BlueSky, and Threads or find me on LinkedIn.

Well this is a first. Massimo has offered to write today’s blog to give me a night off. He has written in Italian, his mother tongue, and we’ve translated it to English.

Enjoy.

ITALIANO 🇮🇹

Oggi ci abbiamo provato.

ENGLISH 🇺🇸

We tried today.

Yes; despite all the difficulties, especially Emily’s health problems, we don’t want to throw in the towel before trying everything possible.

We know it’s not a competition, and we also know that we don’t have to prove anything to anyone but ourselves.

Yet there is something that pushes us and tells us “try; try again”; a voice to which in the end we can only answer, “yes.”

So we set off together this morning, knowing that Emily would only be doing part of the journey.

The morning was beautiful, sunny but not too hot, and we enjoyed the first part together observing the landscape and in particular the work of the shepherds busy tracking their flock digitally, which only confirms that this world is full of contrasts: digital shepherding.

When we reached the first village we looked for a solution for Emily, and a very nice lady and her husband offered to drive her to her destination.

Only Emily can speak of these people; I have set out again to complete the journey.

Honestly, there’s not much to say, in the sense that the landscape is beautiful but it’s not that different from the previous days: up and down hills, valleys and forests.

When we arrived at our destination, Emily was waiting in the garden and I enjoyed a well-deserved beer, I think.

I admire Emily; anyone in her situation would want only one thing: to drop everything and go home.

She tries, she always tries; I just hope she gets better, and then we’ll see.

Tomorrow is another day and, as Christopher Columbus said, “The sea will grant every man new hopes, just as sleep brings dreams.”

Much love & gratitude. Namaste 🙏

Massimo crossed 600 kilometers…walking or riding, we are slowly making our way.
