The True Italian Experience 🛵

Luca and I took an Italian cooking class to learn how to make pizza and gelato. (I’m not sure they have many Italians attend their cooking classes but Luca was a good sport for going and made my cheesy tourist experience a good one.) The class was surprisingly easy or maybe it seemed easy because someone had already done all the prep work of measuring out the ingredients. We each got to make our own miniature pizza and as a group we watched the teacher make the gelato which is basically making a pudding like base and then inserting the mixture it into a fancy machine that makes magic.

The best part – we got to eat all of the creations we made and they were delicious. Thankfully we made the smart decision not to eat before class. Plus, they sent us home with a recipe book that had all the dishes that they teach at the school. It was a lovely few hours.

Our teacher gave us tips on how to identify “really good & authentic” gelato by just looking at it…he said, “if you walk by a gelato shop and the gelato is made to look beautiful, it doesn’t taste as good. Ha! It should just be flat across the top of pan. Not sure if this tip is accurate or not but I’m passing it along anyway.

We also had a lovely family from California at our table. Their two sons had a blast with some extra pizza dough making dinosaurs shaped bread with pizza sauce on top. 🦖 Kids do make these types of experiences much more fun. Their creativity and freedom to explore is refreshing.

Robert De Niro would be proud.

We’ve also had some fun scooter adventures while I’ve been here. I make Luca sing cheesy Italian songs while we ride so I can have the true Italian experience. 🇮🇹

Goodnight and much love from Florence. 🇮🇹
