“What you seek is seeking you.” – Rumi
Tonight is a short one because there’s not much to say.
I booked it on today’s walk. It was flat and rainy in the morning and then the sun came out. I was the first to leave (this never happens) and I walked nonstop for 21km (13 miles) in 4.5 hours. I didn’t see another soul after I passed the Danish couple, Jakob & Caroline at the edge of the town where we slept. I had the trail all to myself today. It was amazing! I was a little bit in my head today, still working on surrendering and letting go. Hamster on a wheel. So I don’t have much to say about the walk except it was really beautiful. Most of it was on dirt paths made by farm equipment. So it was cushy on the legs. The rain stopped about midway but the weather was still cool so it was perfect to walk in.
Our foursome, Dora, Stephen, Hyekyung and me are still all together. We are at a so so hostel with Jakob & Caroline. We were sitting at a bar this afternoon after the walk discussing things that annoy us on the Camino. Climbing stairs in the hostel after a long walk ranks #1. A close second and third are the push button showers and lights on timers.
We mostly laid around and stared at our phones and rested for most of the afternoon. Today felt like a lot of downtime. I’m assuming it’s because I got here so quickly.
Tonight we went out for dinner instead of cooking. Dora and I ate a little early at a bar/cafe. I’m not a fan of eating late and the. trying to sleep. My body does not appreciate it. The woman working was so sweet and kind. She definitely put some extra love into meals. The plates where huge! Dora had pork and I had hamburger as the meat. It came with fries, eggs, bacon and a salad for 7.50€. My whole meal with a bottle of sparkling water and a glass of wine was 9.70€. I mean, you cannot eat like that in the States for that amount of money.
The rest of the crew had drinks and waited for the proper restaurant to open at 7:30pm for dinner. They are still out and I’m tucked in my bunk about to fall asleep. I was extra tired today. I didn’t sleep well last night.
I saw a sign that says we are about 120km from Santiago. I think we will hit 100km or close to it tomorrow. One step in front of the other and we will be there in no time. We’ve kept an eye on the map. It looks like we might arrive in Santiago on Friday, June 17th. Onward and upward.
New pilgrim: Yunli from South Korea joined us the afternoon at the bar and for dinner. She is staying in our hostel as well. She seems sweet.
Highlight: I talked to all the dogs (no photos because I didn’t stop to play). We met a cute one in the bar this afternoon. Photo included.
