There is a piece of me that feels I shouldn’t write about Tarifa because it is such a gem I’d hate for it to get overrun with people, but Christopher, a pilgrim I met in Porto on the Camino shared it with me so I should probably pass on this gift and not keep it just for myself.
Tarifa is divine.
It is the Southern most point in Spain. It’s literally where the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean kiss.
The vibe is calm, peaceful and a little hippie.
After Sevilla, I wanted to go somewhere near the water where I could just chill out and relax for a few days. Tarifa was the perfect choice. I hung out a coffee shops and read, went for a little hike, sunbathed & swam in the Mediterranean Sea, ate delicious tapas and meandered through the all-white buildings in the old town. It is filled with a ton of cute shops and merchandise.
I spent time relaxing in my cozy room at the Casa de Océano. I loved this place. I think I had the tiniest room in the house but it was perfect for a minimalist like me (they have 7 rooms). I was on the second floor with a little balcony. It had a shared kitchen, bathroom, and terrace. That’s my balcony above the sign. 🩵
Plus, the staff was superb! I mainly dealt with Charlotte from Belgium. She and her boyfriend had been traveling around Europe in a van and when they passed through Tarifa, they knew they wanted to come back to stay for a while. So after their adventures, which included hiking part of the Portuguese Camino(!) they came back, got jobs, and rented an apartment. Charlotte was definitely a kindred spirit.
The owner of the house also operates a Kite Surfing shop next door that offers lessons. I wanted to try and learn but I would need more time. So I’ll definitely be returning to Tarifa to give that a whirl.
I even gave myself a pedicure. 🩷
I decided to continue the pilgrim lifestyle so I made most of my meals in the kitchen. Salad with all the “fixin’s” for dinner and yogurt with fresh berries and walnuts from my trip to Morocco. I definitely prefer the simplistic lifestyle. Less makes me feel like I have more.
Honestly, I wish I would have booked two weeks instead of four days but you never know when making a reservation what it’s going to be like. There is so much to do in Tarifa if you love outdoor activities…kite surfing, hiking, biking, swimming, etc. I’m sad to leave but on the upside, I have many reasons to come back to this little piece of paradise. It was the perfect place for me to rest up for my next adventure.
